This Belize island comprises of five main streets and only six districts; Stann Creek, Corozal, Belize,Toledo. Cayo, and Orange Walk. Punta Gorda commonly called P.G is situated on the far south of the country and is the capital of the detached and sparsely inhabited Toledo district. It’s the biggest town south of the country, in addition to being the primary town of Toledo the town is inhabited by Lebanese, East Indian, Chinese, Garífuna, Maya and Creoles who constitute more than half the population. Just as other regions of Belize, Punta Gorda was a port to take mahogany from the jungle to the sea, to be transport to Great Britain, and many other British colonies.

Although P.G. doesn’t have the beaches like Placencia, there are a lot of piers from which to you can swim out in to the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Honduras. An exquisite town, a fine portion of Punta Gorda’s appeal is in its modest character. Punta Gorda is a harbor and fishing town. It was once a little fishing village prior to being inhabited by Honduras Garifuna emigrants in 1823.

Once in Punta Gorda you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds, because there’s a wide range of natural beauty and an exciting cultural diversity. The surroundings thrives on the modest climate, however one of the natural region blessings is a tourist’s nemesis; the rain. There’s no running away from the city’s wet weather because Punta Gorda is snuggled away in the wettest region of the whole country.

Although transport joining the south of Belize has developed, the Punta Gorda region is still unspoilt. It is an incredible place to come wish to conform to the rhythm of Belizean rural life.

World Championship New World Record – Usain Bolt Does it for a 3rd Time – 9.58s

16 Aug

asafa-powell-usain-bolt-100m-world-recordNew world record has been created in the men’s 100 meter race at the world championship 2009 in Berlin Germany. The world greatest sprinter of all time Usain Bolt has broken his own world record to drop it to whopping 9.58s. His fellow country man and friend Asafa Powell was third in the race. Tyson Gay of the USA was second.

Bolt removed 0.11 seconds from his previous record. The Jamaican sprinter said he wanted to be a legend and I believe it is more than fair to say that he is working hard at that goal as it looks like his only rival is himself and the clock.

Watch Bolt’s spectacular 100 meter 9.58 world record run in Berlin 2009

This 2009 world championship was also good for both Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell because Gay set a new American record of 9.71s and Powell looks like he is getting back on form. Great run from these three outstanding men.

Facebook, Twitter, LiveJournal Under Attack

6 Aug

social-media-brandThe social media world is in chaos as two of the leading social media sites have been attacked. Today Twitter is experiencing a prolonged down time due to a malicious Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS). Facebook too has acknowledged that their periodical website issues too are due to DDoS activity.

A Facebook representative stated that “Earlier this morning, Facebook encountered network issues related to an apparent distributed denial of service attack, that resulted in degraded service for some users. No user data was at risk and we have restored full access to the site for most users. We’re continuing to monitor the situation to ensure that users have the fast and reliable experience they’ve come to expect from Facebook.”

The popular blogging community Live Journal is also under attack from DDoS. None of these attacks are coincident, we are in the middle of an intentional attack on the world’s most popular social media sites: Facebook, Twitter and Live Journal.

The question that we now need to ask is who will be next?

Twitter Down – Malicious Attack Cause Social Media Site To Blackout

6 Aug

twitterTwitter is down, the site has lengthened its downtime; over the last few hours Twitter has disclosed that it’s fighting against a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS).

Twitter has been a lot more stable this year than it has been in the past. Twitter has indicated the status of its downtime on its blog, but also stated that it is not certain of the cause. They later indicated that it was a Distributed Denial of Service Attack. Knowing that this is a malicious attack may remove some of the heat from Twitter to some extent but it might be assumed by some individuals that the site is failing to scale properly. DDoS attacks are hard to fight off even for well successful sites.

With a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS), a malicious party barrages on a host with numerous requests so that the server can’t keep abreast, or causes it to reset. Therefore, real users can rarely access the server or in Twitters case not at all.

Not only was the site down, but applications that uses the Twitter API cannot connect to the service as well, creating a full-scale Twitter blackout.

Who might have done this to Twitter? That’s the question on everyone’s mind because it can be anyone.
